Our Laboratories
NECS operates its own laboratories at three of our Maine locations: Scarborough, Kennebunk, and Topsham. For our other locations, we have established partnerships with local hospital labs to ensure that our patients and staff receive the highest quality diagnostic and monitoring services.
The main laboratory for NECS is located at our Scarborough campus. Here, we perform a variety of complex tests on state-of-the-art analyzers. Our commitment to excellence has been recognized by regulatory authorities, with repeated awards for Outstanding Excellence in laboratory services.
Services Offered
Our experienced medical assistants are skilled at performing blood draws, even from the most challenging veins. Nearly 95% of the tests ordered by physicians are run in our labs, ensuring faster results availability for our patients.
Analyses are performed by board-certified Medical Laboratory Scientists who specialize in a variety of complex testing for diagnosis, monitoring, and disease management. For tests not run on site, we have established relationships with various local and national reference labs and specialty labs to ensure that our providers have access to the latest testing in oncology.
We welcome lab prescriptions from your other providers, which can help reduce the number of blood draws you need. We will either run these tests in our lab or forward samples to a reference lab for you, ensuring seamless coordination of care.
Convenience and Accessibility
Our labs operate seven days a week, except for major holidays. Blood draws are available from 7:45 AM–5 PM on weekdays and from 9 AM–1 PM during our urgent care clinic in Scarborough on weekends. To avoid waiting, we recommend scheduling your draws ahead of time.
If you have a port, we have designated personnel to draw blood, which may be done in the lab, treatment room, or exam room. If you don’t have a port, rest assured that our phlebotomists are highly skilled at drawing blood painlessly.
Our secure patient web portal allows you to review your lab results from anywhere, 24/7/365. Results of lab tests done at NECS are available immediately, while results of tests done at an outside lab may take several days to be posted on the portal. Please note that our lab cannot provide medical advice; for any medication or medical issues, please consult your physician or the triage nurse.
Paper lab results will be sent only if requested, and copies of your lab results will also be available at your appointments.
Additional Testing
If your primary care physician recommends additional testing during your NECS visit, please inform the Medical Assistant so that we can order it and ensure that the results are sent to your primary care provider.
