Save Time and Money at Our Scarborough Dispensary

At New England Cancer Specialists, our on-site patient prescription dispensary in Scarborough allows you to fill your prescriptions before leaving our office. This convenience means no long waits for mail-order prescriptions, no extra stops on the way home, and better management of your medications—especially if you take multiple prescriptions from different doctors. In many cases, our dispensary can also offer lower costs for your medications.

Prescription Refills

For your convenience, prescription refills are handled during office hours. To ensure you receive your refill in time, especially before weekends and holidays, please give us 48-hour notice. When calling for a refill, have the following information ready:

  • Name and strength of the medication (from the label)
  • Name and phone number of the pharmacy that filled the original prescription

Remember to bring all your medications or a list of them to each visit with your provider, regardless of whether you need refills.

Medications We Can’t Carry

Please note that there are some medications we cannot carry:

  • Select Chemotherapy Drugs: Some insurance companies require you to use a specialty pharmacy.
  • Oral Narcotics: Due to liability and security restrictions, we cannot fill routine prescriptions for narcotics after hours, on weekends, or holidays.

Why Medication Management is Important

Effective medication management is crucial for your care. Here’s why:

  • Interactions: Some medications can decrease the effectiveness of your chemotherapy treatment.
  • Side Effects: Certain medications may cause side effects similar to those from chemotherapy, increasing your discomfort.
  • Effectiveness: Other medications may enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy.
  • Absorption: Some herbal medicines and foods can alter the way your body absorbs and uses medication.

At New England Cancer Specialists, we maintain a complete and accurate record of all the medications you are taking. We explain each medication, its side effects, interactions with other drugs, and how to take them correctly to avoid problems. Our goal is always to achieve the best possible outcome for you.

The Benefits of Using Our Rx Services

  • Cost: We offer most medications at a lower cost than elsewhere. We also provide financial reviews and assistance.

Please note: Due to liability and security restrictions, we cannot carry narcotics, and some select chemotherapy drugs may need to be filled through a specialty pharmacy.
